User-Orientated

Special Needs

Westminster Digital tries to ensure that wherever possible, Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) and W3C will be adhered to and that webcasts will be presented in a comprehendible, user-friendly manner so that users with limited technical understanding can access on-line meetings.

We follow all standard Human Computer Interface (HCI) design principles relating to access. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Navigation
  • Use of behaviours such as rollovers and hyperlinks
  • Use of all tags
  • Browser compatibility
  • Screen resolution setting
  • Use of colours and fonts

We take reasonable effort to ensure that webcasts can be accessed by users with special needs including, but not limited to those with:

  • Hearing impairments
  • Visual impairments
  • Motor neuron impairments
  • Cognitive skills impairments

Captions and transcripts

In order to cater for users with special needs, we can incorporate captions and transcripts into web pages or consoles with videos.
For Number 10 we worked on the project which resulted in producing a website on which users can view the video with the narration dubbed into one of the 12 languages. When there is an interviewee in the video, the captions appear. If a user wishes to follow the video, they have the option of reading the transcript by simply clicking on the link in the player and the transcript region will appear.
